Cerebral palsy is an injury that can occur during pregnancy, childbirth or the first period of life. It is a phenomenon that causes a permanent brain defect that cannot be cured and is the most common cause when it comes to child disability. Moreover, the development of medicine, which is reflected in high survival rates in preterm infants, has led to an increase in the incidence of various types of cerebral palsy.
Cerebral palsy that develops during pregnancy - the brain of the fetus in the womb is exposed throughout the nine months of pregnancy to various injuries including infections (such as measles, mumps, CMV, etc.), decreased sugar levels, lack of oxygen, intracerebral hemorrhage, thyroid dysfunction and more. Some pregnancies are at risk for cerebral palsy such as multiple pregnancies. Each of the above symptoms can cause damage to brain development during pregnancy and as a result cerebral palsy.
Cerebral palsy at birth - Cerebral palsy can be caused as a result of various events at birth and after a perfectly normal pregnancy. Most often, the reasons for the development of the phenomenon are found in genetic factors or vulnerability during pregnancy.
Premature birth or low birth weight fetus often increase the chance of developing CP.
